World Record Challenge Update
Hopefully you are aware that we are nine weeks into our exciting World Record Challenge – to key 8 million records in three months. Not sure what that is all about? Head over here and here to catch up.
Of course, here in the office we are also deep into summer genealogy conference season. So, there has been a lot of preparation for presentations, traveling, presenting, meetings with society leadership, and in-booth demonstrations going on around the United States. We love to get out and meet you face to face. Over the past few months we’ve spent time with some of you in Burbank and Los Angeles, California; Little Rock, Arkansas; Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah; and Bismarck, North Dakota. And in just a couple of weeks we’re heading to Knoxville, Tennessee for the annual FGS Conference. (Are you going to be there?)
But, all this also means we aren’t in the office quite as much as we’d like to be to keep you up to date on all that is happening with our World Record Challenge. We do try to update the record count at least once every week day and the weekly challenge winners every week (you can find that here). This past month, however, it has been a little less frequent. I promise I’ll do better as we head into the final four weeks of the challenge.
With all that said here are some quick statistics about how we are doing in our goal to hit 8 million records by the end of August:
June Records Keyed |
2,566,210 |
|
June Records Arbitrated |
474,503 |
July Records Keyed |
2,140,633 |
|
July Records Arbitrated |
380,215 |
Grand Total for the first two months
5,561,561
What we need to accomplish in August to hit our 8 million record goal
2,438,439
You have amazed us with what you have accomplished in the last nine weeks. I am confident that together we can reach our goal in these final four weeks!
As some added incentive for you to finish this “marathon” you’ve begun with such zeal we’ll be adding some surprise “aid stations” along the way in addition to the standard weekly challenges. So, be sure to keep an eye on Facebook and here on the blog for those surprises as they come up in the next four weeks. Until then, here are the weekly challenges for the month of August:
August 2nd – Most records arbitrated
August 9th – Most records keyed on a “mystery project”
August 16th – Most records keyed
August 23rd – Most records keyed in the Canada Nominal Rolls and Paylists project
August Challenge of the Month – If you have never before keyed an ADVANCED level project, why don’t you give it a try. It might not be as difficult as you think it will be (especially now that you’ve been keying for a while). But, be sure to read through all the project instructions. The person who keys the most number of advanced records during the month of August will win a free 1 year World Deluxe subscription to Ancestry.com.
So, there you have it. It’s the final stretch and I have complete confidence that you can do it!
Until next time – Happy Keying!
