International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Today is the day that the United Nations has recognized as International Holocaust Remembrance Day; it is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. The World Memory Project will celebrate our 5th anniversary in a few months – in that time millions of records have been indexed by thousands of contributors. Currently there are 21 USHMM collections available to search on Ancestry.com – these records can be ordered through the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
The following projects are available to index:
- USHMM – Kraków, Poland, Jewish Inhabitant Registration Forms, 1940
- USHMM – Poland, Łódź Ghetto Register Books, 1939-1944 (Part 4)
- USHMM – Romania, Selected Holocaust Records, 1940-1945
-
USHMM – Odessa, Ukraine, Selected Holocaust Records from Romanian Occupation during World War II (review/arbitration only)
And new today…
- USHMM – Poland, Jewish Holocaust Survivors Registered in Warsaw, 1945-1946 This is a collection of registration cards of Jewish Holocaust survivors who registered in Warsaw after the war – they are handwritten and are generally easy to read. For this project you will find the sample images to be helpful in locating the data to key. If you have questions please post them on the Discussion page or USHMM Records message board. Happy indexing!
Thank you to all our contributors who have contributed to the World Memory Project!
I just want to say that these are my favorite records to key. They are always a little more of a challenge, and I find them very rewarding. I’m proud to be a part of such an important step in history……
May we never repeat it.
