Ireland, Famine Relief Commission Papers, 1844-1847

Our new project this week – and the last new project for the year – is the Ireland, Famine Relief Commission Papers, 1844-1847.  The records you will encounter are a variety of lists and letters from the Famine Relief Commission.  We will be keying each name that you encounter on the records.  The handwriting can be difficult but is generally legible.  If you have questions or feedback please post them on the Discussion page or the UK Records message board.

This was the time of the potatoe famine during and after which many Irish inhabitants emigrated. I think this is a very interesting and important project. Thank you for letting us contribute to it. I also like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year or/and Happy Holidays.

Agree Elisabeth.
Several of my ancestors came to Australia around 1839 just before the famine but others stayed behind. With any luck this project may help me find something about them. Will definitely do some.
Best wishes to all at this time.
