Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, The Ottawa Journal, 1885-1980 (Part 2)
Today’s new project is Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, The Ottawa Journal, 1885-1980 (Part 2). This is very similar to “part 1” (that we are getting close to having completely reviewed) with the main difference being that we presorted the pages and every image you download will have records to key. I like this project as I love reading the articles and seeing the ads- image sets do take me a little longer to complete. 🙂
We are only keying records from designated areas, they are set apart by having a header in the column – births, engagements, marriages, deaths, in memoriam. We are not keying from the articles. Some pages will have only a few records and others may dozens – start on the left side of the page and go down each column then move on to the next column. If you have questions, comments or feedback please post them on the Discussion page or the message board.
Happy indexing!
Anna, the images for part 1 had also been presorted so that all images had records to key (the only exceptions were a few which included the heading “Weddings and Engagements” but did not actually have any notices below the heading.)
The main differences that I have noticed between this project and part 1 are: the addition of the “Event Age” field, which is a great improvement when keying death notices, and the replacement of the separate birth, marriage and death dates and places with event date and place, which saves a lot of time tabbing through the fields, but will mean the loss of some information from obituaries.
