New Version of the Keying Tool to Launch today


Please read: A new version of keying tool will launch this afternoon.

We are happy to announce that we are launching a new version of the keying tool this afternoon.

Some new features you will notice are:

  • Image sets that are within 3 days of expiring will be highlighted
  • New Getting Started Help
  • Image sets are now automatically saved and closed when going between Select Image Set tab and selecting a new image set

 We have also fixed a variety of bugs, including:

  • Font size consistent across keying and arbitration
  • Scroll bar will show on Enter Data view
  • Login errors
  • Arbitration errors with information being transferred between Match Records and Arbitrate

When you open the keying tool after the new version has launched, the installation will begin automatically. It is possible that once the installation is complete the tool will not automatically open. If your tool does not automatically open after the installation, double click the tool icon on your desktop to open the tool. (This scenario is most likely to happen for 64 bit Vista users.)

ok, everything downloaded ok, but when I got to the entry screen, there was no place to enter anything! The whole bottom of the screen was blank! It did come up with an error box, so I logged out and logged back in and it still wasn’t there! I am running 64 bit Vista. Now what? lol

When the upgrade window appeared and I started the upgrade, I was apprehensive whether it was going to work ok. It’s a GO!!!
The only thing I noticed was that the Tool would not open from the desktop. I had to go into Start-All Programs- to get it up and running. Minor hickup.

Ok, now I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the tool and I still don’t have anything below the image. There is no where to key the info. Here is one of the error messages I’m getting:

Thank you Laurie. I had already tried that fix, but I tried again on your reply, but I’m still getting the same errors. I have also already uninstalled the whole thing and reinstalled it with no luck. Any other options?

The new version as lost the ability to ‘remember’ my settings between images when I’m keying info. I usually turn off the highlighting since I type faster than the highlight moves and center the image so I can see the whole thing. The previous version remembered this between images and image sets. With this new version I have to turn off the highlighting and recenter for each image, which is time consuming and annoying. Is there any way I can at least turn off the highlighting? (I’m running on Windows XP)

Well the new keying tool installed and then told me I’d got a fatal error – just like last time. I managed to get onto the Project to be told that all the things I downloaded yeasterday to do today were now out of date and would be returned for keying by someone else. I thought I’d log onto Ancestry and download the keying tool again and repair it like last last time – but I have been having problems logging onto Ancestry.co.uk too. When I finally managed – my Home Page has completely gone and I have to set it up again – but there is an error message to tell me this can’t be done, there is also a Message showing for me – first time I’ve had this, but I can’t access it, and when I tried to get through to the Project pages, I can’t. Not sure where I go from here!!

Ok – what I did to solve the fatal error problem was to uninstall (saving the project files) and then reinstall. Seems to work as I was able to bring up the keyer without the installer starting and getting the fatal error. Who knows – pure magic.

We have been working with the developers this morning to resolve the various errors that have been reported. Anyone who submitted errors should be contacted in the next few hours.

Similar problems to last time – froze up when downloading image sets. Different twist with .com & .co.uk not available. Eventually worked after rebooting PC.
BUT I notice that this version has no “BETA” tag; is this the final edition?

Following my comment at 14 – I can now access the Ancestry UK site and have managed to download the keying tool again – clicking on Repair has solved the problem for me.

Downloading the tool again and re-installing, using the repair option, solved the re-installing every time I opened the tool with the accompanying Fatal Error message and 2 other boxes with OK buttons but no information as to why they were generated. This is on Vista Business.

I cannot get the new keying tool to download. It goes completely through the three steps, then gives error 2869. Any ideas what this could be about? I’ve been using the keying tool for months with no problem, and nothing else has changed.

We do have a fix for contributors who have experienced one of the following errors:

– Missing the data entry portion of the screen (the bottom half that contains the fields to enter data)

– Fatal errors that do not allow you to open the tool

– Errors that stop the loading of the tool, including:
* “Keying tool has encountered a problem and needs to close.”
* “Void AdornedViewerContainer…”

We are working to contact everyone who has contacted us regarding these errors.

If you have experienced a 2869 error or an error in the installation of the program we will have a fix soon that will resolve these errors.

I know I have said this before but I truly appreciate your dedication, perseverance, positive attitudes and willingness to work with us through this trouble shooting process.

still hangs up for a while when finished one image set while offline. takes about 5 minutes for it to unstick and let me choose the next image set. I am not ALWAYS connected to the internet. is there a fix for that bug?
