Keying Tool Update – Version 1.0.0.115 is Live!

After the last version of the tool was released we had quite a few errors reported – the main errors were in relation to clicking on the tool bar and when moving in the process from Set Form Position to Enter Data.  Thanks to your quick action in reporting them, and our developers quick work we have released a new version of the tool that has eliminated these errors.

If you encounter errors, or have feedback on the project or keying tool please contact our support team by using the “Provide Feedback” link or by emailing worldarchivesproject @tgn.com.  Happy Holidays!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

I’m working on the NYC Naturalization. The card still does not ‘drop down’ when the surname is highlighted. It does when the given name is highlighted.
Just out of curiosity, why do I have to continually F7 for the nationality of Bavarian, Hesse-Darmstadt, Wurtenberg, etc yet Prussian is accepted? There are a lot of pre-Germany immigrants in NYC – it would be nice to not have to F7.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

How much skewing should we allow before marking a card. I have been judging skewing by the height of the cursor, at least trying to.

I am getting this error now Help!!!!!

I appreciate that the tool doesn’t ~J -uM -P~ and ~j-U-M-p~ and
~JU-m-P~ now with every new Tab change. Thanks.

I have some questions/beefs I wish the programmers would look at changing, such as:

Why if the surname is RAW and I manually type Raw, WHY does it change to Rawl, Rawling, Rawlings–or anything EXCEPT “Raw”. Why are surnames NOT alphabetical and move through the suggested list based on Keystokes??? The surname “Raw” is #6 — it should be #1 or close to the top, and definitelt before Rawl, Rawling, or Rawlings! Same thing happens on other names that have a base word or a longer version…as examples: Tips changes to Tipson, Bats changes to Batsell.

It’s just frustrating to type a short name, look back, and realize the (taping mouth) tool changed the name!

Yes, I know I can hit a Number to enter a name, but with some names, it takes until the 4th letter or more for the name to even appear on the list, AND, it is just faster to type the whole name (unless it’s long, like Zenlinople or some 10-letter surname).

AND, while I’m on the subject of names, sometimes the Surname is apparently new to the tool. So, I mark it green (accept). WHY can’t the tool be made to auto-accept every instance of the name in THAT record, at least.

AND, let’s say I’m in the “B” letters of the Andrews cards, AND there is a run of the same name so I’m doing 20 cards back to back (with multiple sections usually), WHY can’t the tool have a selection of “use same surname as last card until manually changed”. That would be so nice, especially for the hard to spell names.

My beefs for tonight. But, LOL, thanks for the other fixes.

Judy

Thank you!!!

I reported problems under the previous update in the SoCal Naturalization files. The current update seems to have corrected the problems I was experiencing.

Judy,
you can turn off the automatic finish feature by going to the file in the upper left corner and go to options. I just put a space after the short name that might be added to automatically.
Hope this helps.

I had a recent occassion to go back and look at a card that I had previously keyed in (NE Naturalization records) and noticed that several entrys that I had made were no longer present. I double checked this problem and it is always present. Hasn’t anyone else noticed this? Is an update in procerss to correct this bug? I hate to think of how many cards I have keyed and didn’t go back and check them.

I am trying to use the keying tool on a vista based compotuer. I have been keying up till now successfully on an XP machine.

I get the following error message

System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly ‘IULight, Version=1.1.0.20469, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=0b51e950028a20a6’ or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.

This appears when I try to load the files for keying.

Please advise

Ann I am also having same problem I am still waiting for a answer from Dec 24 so you are not alone.

I believe that it has something to do with my getting a new computer for Xmas. The old one worked just fine, but was an XP operating system. The new one is Vista. I have tried to uninstall the program from my old computer, I have changed my username and password, and nothing works. I am very able to download image sets, but cannot open them to work on them and cannot delete them. We have sent several messages through feedback and have even tried calling Ancestry, without any help so far. I realize though that it is a holiday week. Perhaps it will be resolved by next week.

This is to all keyers past and present. As an arbiter I have had to reject many many sets of image data because the keyer(s)have not completed all of the data lines in the set, or have skipped lines and re-ordered the data in a way that makes comparisons of data impossible. It is obvious that some keyers do not understand that they are supposed to enter the data requested and if they cannot locate the information they should stop and learn how to find it rather than just skipping it and entering only the data they can find. If the data entered by keyers A and B is not in sync – that is it is not on the same line, it must be rejected by the arbiter and has to be keyed again. This makes for a lot of extra work in order to make the project useable.

HELP !!!! I am having problems with the criminal records. When I complete a set and the data is submitted it is not clearing from my list of sets to complete therefore Idont know whether they have been received at Ancestry or not. I can still open them as if they are projects still to be completed. I have tried flagging them as duplicates but they will not clear from my “to do” list I dont know what to do??

My computer was down for 2 weeks, but I was able to reinstsall Windows XP, and then reload the keying tool. What a difference there is in the tool! It makes the Nebraska Census easy, since the marker goes right to the country of origin. Thanks!

Working on Criminal Records and need some assistance. I have a record that has 1 name and 2 aliases. How should this be keyed. Thanks for any and all help. Never saw this before.

The colored bar doesn’t stay on the correct line. By the end of the Nebraska 1885, it is 5 or 6 lines below what it should be. I can’t even see the correct line. It also jumps around. Where do I get the update from?

EMERY. I did notice after going back and checking some of my entries in the NE NAT. RECORDS that there were MISSING ENTRIES previously entered as well.

When I use the Ancestry website to examine Census records there is a really useful tool on the toolbar consisting of a magnifying glass which can be used to magnify just a small part of the page.

Would it be possible to add this feature to the keying tool as very often enlarging the whole document is not helpful, for example when comparing two names or letters on separate lines some distance apart.
