Happy Thanksgiving!

For many of you today is a regular work day but for all of our contributors who reside in the United States today is a day when families gather and give thanks for all that we have.  We remember our relatives who took the long and harrowing ship rides across the ocean, and the hardships they suffered settling in a new land.

In my family we look at old photos and it is a time for story telling so the next generations in our family know where their beginnings took root.  I am sure it is this tradition that started me on the road to becoming a family historian.  I have a great appreciation for all of my ancestors and want to make sure that they are remembered, so my storytelling and searching for records goes on.

It is in this spirit that I have been a part of many transcription projects.  I remember my first project many years ago.  I was sent a box of records, and I spent long hours typing the information into the computer, then I shipped the disks back after I was done.  And more recently I am enjoying being a part of the World Archives Project – it is a much simpler process!

I appreciate the many hours of work that are spent by contributors who are involved in the effort to make more records available not only for themselves but also for their fellow researchers.
