How much do you really know about where you come from?

YouTube star Domics faced that question on a trip to his native Philippines.

Check out his popular video (at 2 million views and counting):

The trip back home was just the start of Dominic’s story. Next he took an AncestryDNA test to discover more about his roots.

Quick Guess from Mom and Dad

Before Dominic saw his results, he and his family guessed what they might see.

His grandmother on his dad’s side had a Spanish last name, Del Mundo.

So maybe he was part Spanish?

On his mom’s side, he had a great-grandmother who was thought to have Japanese ancestry.

Could it be Japanese heritage in him that people were confusing for Korean, or Chinese, or Vietnamese?

What Did the DNA Test Reveal?

His ethnicity estimate results showed 66% Asia East and 32% Polynesia.

Dominic and his dad were surprised he didn’t show more Asia East relative to Polynesia.

He was also surprised to see he had a trace of Indian ancestry, about 1%.

But for Dominic, what was really intriguing was potential family connections to Japan.

Kon’nichiwa to Long Lost Family?

Next to his ethnicity breakdown, Dominic saw a list of DNA matches (people he might be related to).

He spotted a cousin with a Japanese last name, Tokunaga.

Could it be a long lost Japanese cousin? And how many more could he find?

He had pages of matches, including one cousin with the exact same name as a celeb in the Philippines.

Dominic and his parents were pretty sure they knew what they’d find. But they were surprised.
