Jumpstart Your Year with RootsTech 2021

Family History
20 January 2021
by Ancestry® Team

The past year was an unconventional one, filled with unprecedented challenges in every lane of life. But it was also filled with uplifting moments of people overcoming obstacles together.

At Ancestry®, we were inspired by families across the globe coming closer together—even when physically apart—by sharing their unique family stories.

And we’re glad to share a bit of good news for anyone looking to explore their family history in the new year: free online access to RootsTech, the world’s premier genealogy conference. With 30,000 attendees last year, RootsTech is the place to go for tips and tricks on family history research.

One of our Ancestry genealogy experts and YouTube star Crista Cowan shared,

“RootsTech is one of my favorite times of the year, because of all of the amazing stories I get to hear from people about the impact that family history discoveries and sharing those stories with their families has on their lives. I’ve been doing genealogy and teaching folks all about it for years, but people still surprise me with what they learn.”

Snackable Genealogy Tips

This year at RootsTech Connect, while there will definitely be content for seasoned genealogists, Ancestry will share lots of quick ways to get going with family history including:

One-minute videos: If you’ve got sixty seconds between Zoom calls or while prepping your next hit of caffeine, you can watch one of the Genealogy in a Minute videos. They feature quick tutorials guiding you along to your next family history discovery.

Ten-minute videos: Maybe you’re out walking the dog or have a bit of “me time.” You can catch one of the ten-minute (or even twenty-minute) videos to dive deeper into easy-to-understand how-to content. Learn about topics like how to use those “shaky leaf” Ancestry Hints® you may have seen on TV, or how to understand your DNA to learn more about your past.

“Often people have the concept that family history is really hard or just don’t know where to start. That’s why I love sharing these quick tips with them, seeing that ‘aha’ moment, when they realize they’ve got the tools to get started on the next steps of their family history journey,” says Crista.
