  1. What a wonderful picture! You can’t help smiling along with your great grandfather in anticipation of that drink !

  2. This is a terrific picture! Kudos to James Clarence Martell and the photographer who captured his moment of happiness. It makes me laugh 70 years later.

  3. Enjoyed each of these pictures.

The World’s Fair group is wonderful. The man up front almost seems to be afraid of putting his arm around his lady. Youth. Times have changerd from that era.

The man enjoying his drink. My what anticipation. Of course, I looked to see how old he was when he passed. I’m sure he enjoyed every moment of his life.

    Great Pictures.

  4. I can’t find any listing for a 1920 Long Island World’s Fair. The closest one is the New York World’s Fair 1939-40. I wasn’t born in time for that one but my Grandparents and Parents both attended it.

  5. I always look at the old pictures because, regardless of who they are, they’re interesting. In seeing yours, I did a double take on the name “Zorn”. I’ve been looking for an old friend from high school by the name of Sharlyn Zorn. I think her family was from the Chicago area before they moved to Racine, Wi. Her Father had a Jewelry store. I haven’t been able to look her up anywhere and was wondering if, by an chance, you were related to those Zorn’s. Shar would be 62-63 now.
    Thank you,

  6. I love these old photos. I found myself, when I first found Ancestry.com, downloading pics of complete strangers. Some of the pictures were so captivating. Some caught an era perfectly. Or, I would find myself wondering at the life behind the face.

I am over that now. Mostly. **sheepish grin**

  7. Uuummm, don’t wish to be a party pooper, but this very good picture looks like an ad for beer. Don’t think I have ever seen a snapshot or studio picture quite like it. Also, it may just be a glich, but looks like the reflection of an airplane in the upper right corner. Of course there is the possibilty that Mr. Martell did pose for an advertisement for beer!
