Postcard Poser – January

Posted by Kelly on 31 January 2012 in General, Postcard Poser, Record Collections

Can you guess the location of this month’s postcard poser? It has changed use over the years but this old building still has one of the best views in town…

For those who are new to this feature on our blog, every month we share a postcard-style photo taken somewhere in the UK. It could be a particular property, a famous landmark, or just a view of the town centre. All you have to do is tell us where the photo was taken in the comments section below.

I think I agree with #2 This has a striking resemblance architecturally with London County Hall. But it’s not the regular view from along the bridge.

County Hall, Westminster. Used for many years by the Greater London Council, followed by the Inner London Education Authority (I.L.E.A.) before it closure. It was then sold and transferred into a Hotel.

Well done to Gillian Long and all others who got this right! It is indeed the Star and Garter Home on Richmond Hill in Surrey. In Victorian days a glamorous hotel stood on the site, but it’s now a home for disabled service men and women.
