Postcard Poser – December

Posted by Ancestry_Kelly on 21 December 2011 in General, Postcard Poser

Can you guess the location of this month’s postcard poser?  Seasonally-themed (but not in the obvious way), this one is also tricky for a major reason which I’m sure you clever lot will take no time to point out!

For those who are new to this feature on our blog, every month we share a postcard-style photo taken somewhere in the UK. It could be a particular property, a famous landmark, or just a view of the town centre. All you have to do is tell us where the photo was taken in the comments section below.

Great Western Railway Hotel and Snow Hill station entrance, Birmingham. Sadly, now demolished. Presumably the Snow Hill reference is the seasonal part!

It’s a guess but I think it’s the Great Western Hotel in Birmingham which is now the Snow Hill station??

Would that be the Great Western Royal Hotel Paddington?

Snow Hill Station Birmingham. It was demolished and replaced and It is now the second most important railway station in the city, after Birmingham New Street station.

Thanks to all for taking part. It is indeed the old Snow Hill Station in Birmingham (the name bearing the seasonal reference!).

Such a grand old building, so really sad that it was demolished, but apparently the foundations weren’t entirely robust and it started very slowly sliding down the hill!
