Advent Calendar Challenge – Day 1 answer

Posted by Lilian Lee on 2 December 2011 in Record Collections

Yesterday we launched the Ancestry Advent Calendar and challenged you to find out, by searching our 1891 Census, what the name of Mary Christmas’s eldest son who had left home by 1901 was. The answer was JOHN. How did you get on with our festive challenge?

Hi

Thank you for asking a question about my Great Great Grandmother yesterday. The answer to your question was John from that Census, but from previous cenus returns you will see he wasn’t her eldest son. That was Arthur.

One of our Facebook fans rightly pointed out that if you follow the family back to 1871, you will see that they had a son, Arther, in around 1865. It seems that no matter how often we remind ourselves not to make assumptions, even the most experienced of us are still guilty from time to time.
