It’s day three of our ‘15 minutes with 15 collections’ countdown! Today, we’ve made our California Marriage Index, 1960-1985, completely free for everyone to use. They’ll stay that way until October 15th.

California has a higher proportion of immigrants than any other part of America. Our index reveals over 4.8 million marriages from all over the state between 1960 and 1985, telling you the bride and groom’s names and ages, plus where and when they married.

Once you’ve found ancestors in the index, it’s a great idea to order their full certificate. Unlike in Britain, these aren’t held by a single national organisation – you need to contact the relevant county recorder or clerk. The index gives you the location – in most cases you can simply search for this place name alongside ‘county clerk’ at Google to find the information you need.

Come back tomorrow for free access to our Bavaria, Germany, WWI Personnel Rosters, 1914-1918 . See all our free record collections this month.
