The description of this database says, &quot;Names of Royal Navy and Royal Marine officers who died in The Great War are listed in this database&quot; and yet the ranks of the men include stoker, pte, band master 2nd class, engineman, AB, deck hand, trimmer, boy servant, 2nd cooks mate, etc. 

Surely these are &quot;other ranks&quot;, not officers — or am I missing something?</description>
