At the 2006 Annual Conference of the Indiana Genealogical Society held in Austin, Indiana, on April 1, Curt Witcher, MLS, FUGA, of Fort Wayne, Indiana was named fellow of the Society. This is the first time in the Society’s 16-year history that this award has been presented. Witcher was the founding president of the Indiana Genealogical Society for its first five years and continues to be active on many its committees.
In addition to being the founding president and current regional director of the Indiana Genealogical Society, Curt has been manager of the Historical Genealogy Department at the Allen County Public Library for eighteen of the twenty-seven years he has been with the Library. During that time the collection has more than doubled. He is co-editor of the widely acclaimed Periodical Source Index, known as PERSI, a one-of-a-kind subject index to periodical literature in the genealogical field..
Witcher, a well-known lecturer and author, serves in numerous advisory capacities in the genealogical field, including as a member of the advisory board for the Passenger and Immigration Index Project of Thomson-Gale, a member of the Ancestry.com’s advisory board, and a member of the FamilySearch Advisory Council for the Genealogical Society of Utah. In February of this year, he was appointed by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels to the newly formed Indiana State Historical Records Advisory Board and will be working with the state archivist and other board members from around the state to bring more funding and recognition to Indiana archives.
Witcher will be chairing the Federation of Genealogical Societies conference in Fort Wayne, Indiana, August 15-18, 2007, which brings together genealogists from across the nation. He has served as president and on the board of directors of both the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the National Genealogical Society.
Awards were also presented for Distinguished County Genealogical Service to Gerald Rhoades, Ferne Bowman Metzger, and Louis E. Ebert of the Indiana Room of the Marion Indiana Public Library. Richard L. Wells of Fort Wayne, Indiana, received an award for Outstanding County Genealogical Contribution.
I searched this (Scottish Immigration of English) site for “Daniels”. No where on this page is there any mention of “Daniels” Immigrants of English descent?
Searching for “Daniels” and this Witcher site keeps coming up with absolutely no reference to any “Daniels” living or dead.
Others have complained but nothing has been done to correct this.
