This is my grandmother, , dressed as a gypsy, ca. 1920 in Newark, New Jersey. She was born to German immigrant parents in Westchester, New York, in 1899.
What is her name?
I would like to know if Ella Ann (Houston)Kraher is related to
General Sam Houston.

Was there some popular thing at the time to dress like gypsies? I have photographs of my grandmother taken about the same time (1920) in St. Louis, she also was in gypsy garb. Seeing this photo today makes me question why the outfit?!
I wonder if there was some event or person that made gypsies popular around 1920. I have beads and a skirt that my grandmother wore as her”gypsy girl” to family gatherings or bithday parties in Utah. I think she used to make up funny stories and tell peoples fortunes and give treats to small children. Might be fun the research that time period.
