Weekly Planner: Investigate a Local Genealogical or Historical Society

Check out the websites of genealogical and historical societies for the areas in which your ancestors lived. You may find online exhibits or guides that are relevant to your research. And while you’re there, consider joining. You never know what goodies you’ll find in their periodicals and what benefits that may come with membership.

  1. First I have seen this, I need to find the Family History Circle for East Lemon Wyoming Co. PA. or if there are none, I would like to try Tunkhannock,Wayne Co. PA.

    Thank you,

    Ina

  2. Best thing I did. Especially for small towns as the individuals (usually volunteers) working for the society know a lot of the town citizens. In my case, the individual assisting me knew my grt grandmother and the pres. of the society’s daughter was married to a grt uncle. I joined as a life member and it was WELL worth it. In addition, there are volunteer group sites such as RAOGK.com (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) that fulfill requests at cost (i.e. cost of copies,mileage,etc.). I’ve sent them a donation – all requests are performed by volunteers – again WELL worth it as the information found saved me time, frustration and opened many more doors.
