  1. The main thing I remember about grade school is the cafeteria lunches. I always ate in the school cafeteria every day, maybe because my mother worked. This was during the 1960s and I was always the only kid in school whose mother worked! Most of the lunches were OK, but there was one that was dreadful, at least to me. It was called a Beetle Hat and it was a piece of fried bologna (ugh–tastes and smells nasty!) with a scoop of mashed potatoes on top, then melted cheese was poured over the potatoes. I tried to pick off the potatoes and cheese but the bottom part of the potatoes that rested on the bologna, tasted like bologna. I always went home hungry that day! I am not a picky eater but to this day I still will not eat bologna.
