New Feature at Ancestry Will Give Your “Click Finger” a Rest!

Hover.bmpThis week I ran across a new feature at Ancestry that is going to make my life MUCH easier, and I’m guessing you’re going to like it too.

Remember how you’d get a nice long list of search results in a database like the census, and you had to go back and forth trying to find your ancestor? You click on a hit, wait for it to load, say, “No, that’s not him,” click back, click on the next hit, wait for it to load, “No, that’s not him,” click back…-you get the idea.

Well, help has arrived for those tired clicking fingers. A new feature at Ancestry allows you to see more details by simply hovering your mouse over the “View Record” link. No more clicking back and forth-just hover over it for a second or two, scan the information and move on until you find your guy (or gal)! Click on the image to the right to enlarge it and see what I mean.

Index fingers of the world, rejoice! 😉

  1. I have used the new feature and find it very helpful, when I can read it. But I have a concern, why have so many websites gone to the parctice of showing dropdown (or sideways) information OVER other print on the web page. It makes it extremely hard to read the information of the dropdown (or sideways) print?

  2. Looks like it doesn’t work with Safari or perhaps with Macs. I’d love to take advantage of this feature.

  3. Who Are We!!!
The woman on the far right is my ggrandmother Anna Rudolph Lipps, I believe the other three are as follows, next to Anna, Louise, next to Louise, Elizabeth, and finally Karolina. I believe photo taken in York Town, Dearborn Co. Indiana, possibly in late 1800’s or early 1900. Would love to know who Louise, Elizabeth and Karolina are related to. I believe them all to be Lipps (maiden name). Does anyone know who we were?
    Thank you Sharon Griffiths

  4. I love this new feature. I use IE and Mozilla Firefox as browsers and it works on both of them.

  5. I discovered this new feature by accident as well. I would like to add something else I discovered when it started to pop up. My screen wasn’t big enough to display all the family members in the family list… lo and behold, once the pop up is there you can drag the pointer down and it will independently scroll down so you can see every name.

This is one of the BEST changes ancestry has made. (don’t get me started again about the search page they rolled out about a year ago…)

  6. i have to agree with those who found the new feature before me, it is great! stumbled on it by accident while doing some record updates, boy did it save me time and trouble. i have severe arthritis in my hands so anything that saves me extra work is really appriciated. thank you

  7. I also found new feature by accident. It is GREAT. I got almost twice as much searching done in allotted time than I had anticipated. Can’t wait for it to work on all images.

  8. I would like to know what the search order is – does it go by nanme, state, date first, second, etc.? I would like to be able to indicate the search order.

  9. I also ‘accidentally’ found this feature and I am glad to know it is new as I was feeling rather ‘duh’ about myself for never having used it before. It is a great, great time saver. Thanks Ancestry, also I am excited about the capabilities to create a book for publishing which are on their way. I am hoping to do this for Christmas gifts.

  10. Like others, stumbled on this feature. What a time save! I love it! One of the best things Ancestry has come up with as far as I’m concerned.

  11. Mac owners pay the same amount as PC owners for Ancestry. Why don’t we get the same services or a discounted price? Add me to the list of those disappointed that this new feature doesn’t work with Safari. Yes, I can use Firefox but I keep all my Genealogy links and bookmarks within Safari. It’s irritating to again be treated like the unwanted step-child.

  12. This new feature saves a lot of time and frustration. A big Thank You to the person who designed it.

  13. I haven’t tried it yet but all these comments are making me anxious to give it a try. I have MS XP so should have no problem.
