Photo Corner: John Thomas Sheraton and daughters, Hannah and Charlotte

John Thomas Sheraton, and his two daughters, Hannah and Charlotte, EnglandContributed by Terie Harris, Prescott Valley, Arizona
This a photo of my third great grand father, John Thomas Sheraton, and his two daughters, Hannah and Charlotte, taken in England.  I was told he was a sea captain. If you look at his left ear he has a small earring. I recently magnified the picture and saw that he had not one but two earrings–one in each ear. He was a handsome man but it appears his right eye was wondering a little.

  1. That’s a really good photo! The wandering eye is a condition called Amblyopia – lazy eye. It is usually an inherited trait – my husband’s maternal great-great-grandmother, her daughter (his great-grandmother), and his father had the condition. His father’s mother placed a patch on his good eye to help make the “bad” eye straighten out. It worked!

  2. Wonderful photo! I wish I had photos of my ancestors from England at that same time!
On my screen it looks like the photo of the lady on the left side of the picture has been scratched just where her eye was. I recently had extensive photo restoration on many of my old photos done by Derek Hegstead of Orem, Utah. He is a professional artist and really did an awesome job–even drawing in eyes when the photos were too faint or blurry! Because he is an artist, he could draw realistic looking details. The results were fantastic. His phone is (801)224-5833. Beautiful picture.

  3. There are many John Sheratons in my family tree – I live in north-east England – and, of course, I am wondering if we are related.

I like this photo and would like to think I could add it to my family tree at http://www.genesreunited.co.uk.

If you would like to swap Sheraton genealogy information, please feel free to contact me. 🙂
