Ancestry.com.au is a site dedicated to family history. It’s a place to learn about family members who came before you and the lives that they lived.

You can search through an extensive variety of historical records including birth, marriage and death indexes, census, immigration and military records, phone books, newspapers and periodicals. As well as searching our historical record collections you can easily organise your family history by creating detailed profiles for each family member on your family tree. You can upload personal photographs and documents for safekeeping, add biographical timelines – plus record and save oral histories and video to your tree. You can also invite other family members to build and share your family tree.

Our first website, Ancestry.com, was launched in 1996 and quickly became synonymous with connecting people with their roots. Ancestry.com.au was launched in 2006 and we now have an international network of nine Ancestry websites, providing a wealth of historical records and containing more than 4 billion family history records.

Ancestry members tend to keep themselves very busy and have:

  • Created 13 million family trees
  • Added more than 1.4 billion profiles to the trees
  • Uploaded 30 million photographs and stories
