How do I figure out where in Ireland my ancestors came from? I found passenger lists for both families that I am looking for, but they only list Ireland as country of origin. O'Day family immigrated in 1857 and Davis family in 1852. (Davis daughter married O'Day son.) Both families sailed from Liverpool. How can I find out where they came from?
Thanks in advance for help from anyone. :)

Hi Margaret,
Unfortunately there are no images for the Irish R.C. records at this time. She may have been thinking of the Liverpool, England Roman Catholic records we posted a few months ago. You can find them by searching the card catalog (http://search.ancestry.com/search/CardCatalog.aspx) for Liverpool Catholic. That should bring up the baptisms, marriages, confirmations, and burials. Because many Irish immigrants went first to Liverpool before coming to the U.S., you may find records of some events there. I wrote about the Irish in these records back in April. http://learn.ancestry.com/LearnMore/Article.aspx?id=16056

Good luck with your research!

Juliana,
Are there images of the Parish registers in the databases covering the Catholic baptisms, marriages and deaths? A friend of mine (a new subscriber to ACOM's world subscription) said she thought that she saw images of the parish registers. However, when I tried out the databases covering the Catholic baptisms, marriages and deaths at a local library/FHC, all I could see were the indexes. No images of the registers seemed to be available. Are there images or was my friend mistaken? If there are images, are they only available to home subscribers and not available on the Ancestry Library/Institutional versions?
TIA for your response.
P.S. I also have Howleys in County Mayo!

Thanks................
